Williams, Esq. [text of letter:] Portland May 25, 1818 Dear Brother, I unexpectedly left Boston on Friday evening or I would have called on you again & paid you for the Portrait Frame & c. We had nine days passage down and arrived here yesterday noon. Please put my portrait on boards of one of our ___ & I will send you the money by Capt. Porter. We are all well, wife joins me in love to yourself & family & are respectfully your _____ _____ John Dix [handwritten text underneath letter:] A letter from John Dix concerning the frame for his portrait. The portrait was painted by Henry Williams, John Dix's brother-in-law.
