Joseph Joy (1645-1697)

Ensign Joseph Joy, 4th child of Thomas and Joan Joy, was born Boston Apr. 1, 1645; died May 31, 1697; interred Hingham, Mass.

Joseph married Mary Prince, daughter of John and Margaret Prince (Margaret Prince died March, 1703). Mary Prince was born July 29, 1649 Boston; died June 23, 1726; interred Scituate.

Joseph and Mary married Hingham Aug. 29, 1667.

Their first child was named Joseph, born July 30, 1668.

Ensign Joseph Joy. Fourth son of Thomas and Joan Joy, was an Ensign in the Pequod war, was a "carpenter" by trade, and a Constable in 1673. His will dated Aug. 4, 1690 "being bound upon a voyage at sea" mentions property received by gift "from my late father Thomas Joy." He is thought to have been the builder of the Hingham Meeting House designed by his father. He had fifteen children of whom his son Joseph was the first.
