Joseph Joy (1668-1716)

Joseph Joy, 1st child of Joseph and Mary Joy, was born Hingham July 30, 1668; died April 29, 1716; interred Hingham.

Joseph married Elizabeth Andrews, daughter of Thomas & Ruth Andrews of Hingham. Elizabeth Andrews was born Sept. 22, 1665; died Sept. 10, 1743.

Joseph and Elizabeth married May 22, 1690 in Hingham.

Their 8th child was named Jedediah, born Feb. 27, 1703.

Joseph Joy, 2nd. 1st child of Joseph and Mary Joy. Was a constable in 1696-1711. With others, signed testimonial to the worthy character of Mehitable [sp.?] Warren accused of witchcraft. His gravestone with the inscription still legible is in the Hingham churchyard. It is the most ancient Joy grave mark in America. He had nine children of whom Jedidiah was the eighth.
