Obituary

[one-page handwritten xeroxed document:]

Chronicle

Norman Brooke Dix

Norman Brooke Dix died on January 10, 1992 at his home in Quiogue. He was born in East Orange, N.J. on October 19, 1909. He attended Carteret Academy and the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. During World War II he served as Commanding Officer of a Coast Guard cutter on anti-submarine patrol. For several years before and after the War he owned and operated the charter fishing boat "Lone Star" out of Montauk. The Lone Star was made available to the Coast Guard during the War for patrol service and became a contributing factor toward the finance of the war effort. He was the owner and operator of Moniebogue Boat Slips in Westhampton Beach before its sale to South Shore Boats of Suffolk. He was one of the founders of the Quantuck Bay Croquet Group and as an accomplished player who was nationally ranked participated in many tournaments.

He was a direct descendant of Edward Dix who sailed from Gravesend, England in 1635. He was also a direct descendant of Lt. Col. Francis Tennille, a member of George Washington’s staff during The Revolution. He was a member of The Society of the Cincinnati, a member of the Union Club, the Quantuck? Beach Club and a former member of the Westhampton Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of fifty three years, Eleanor, his sister Alison Hodges of Quiogue?, four daughters, Eleanor "Boo" Bistrian of Ipswich, Mass., Joy Tennille Amzallag of London, Gabriel Brooke of Provincetown, Mass., Alexandra McCabe of Portland, Maine, his niece Carla de Conciliis of Naples, and seven grandchildren.

Family services were held on January 12, 1992.

Donations to East End Hospice or the Westhampton Beach Historical Society would be appreciated by the family.
