The great storm of September 16th, 1875, at Indianola, Texas, carried off the home of Father and Mother and its contents together with the large buildings, stores and warehouses of Father. All their contents were swept into Matagorda Bay.

However, the following letters, now over a hundred years old, were found among our Mother's effects and papers, recently discovered. As they comprise all the Irish family history data known to us they are included herein for their many interesting narratives of the past. These were the years of the great famine in Ireland.
