Eulogy handwritten 1992 [handwritten text:] I Norman Brooke Dix - 1909-1992 lived a full and long life. He was the 3rd generation to circle the globe & shared his enthusiasm for boating & the sea with his wife & children. Some of his happiest moments were cruising on his boat The LONE STAR to Block Island or Nantucket, and fishing for giant tuna or swordfish. Later croquet took over & he became a skilled player and teacher. He was generous with his time not only with the family but many friends & after doing something thoughtful & thanked he would say "What are friends for?" II His grandchildren called him "Papa" and he was anxious for them to learn boating & of course croquet - but he never could get them enthused over tennis which he played as well as golf - However they all tried to master his magic tricks with napkin rings and disappearing coins. He was a creative cook & never permitted anyone but himself to cook aboard the LONE STAR - a kind thoughtful generous man who will be greatly missed and admired. Do not ask for whom the Bell Tolls - it tolls for thee. |
